What is Google Scholar

Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites.

How to set up Google Scholar to find resources available at Khalifa University

You can find some open access articles to download through Google Scholar and others required payment. A set-up can be made by linking Google Scholar to Khalifa University of Science & Technology Library Catalog, which allows you to check if the library has the full-text of a certain article you found in Google Scholar.

Here are steps to link GS to your KU library catalog:

  • Go to https://scholar.google.ae/
  • Click on the “setting” link at the top, right hand side of the page
  • Click on the “Library Link” of the left hand side of the page
  • In the search box, type “Khalifa University”
  • Choose “Full text@Khalifa Univeristy” option
  • Click on “Save”

You will see “Full text@Khalifa” links to the right of your research results.

Google Scholar Citations provide a simple way for authors to keep track of citations to their articles. You can check who is citing your publications, graph citations over time, and compute several citation metrics.

 

Creating alerts in Google Scholar

Creating search alert

  1. Enter your search terms and run the search
  2. On the results page, click on the white envelope below the search box labeled as "Create an Email Alert"
  3. Set alert parameters -- Alert name, email address, # of results
  4. Click "Create Alert"

Creating citation alert

To create a citation alert, click on "Cited by" link below the item for which you want to set the alert. Then click on "Create An Email Alert" icon.

Google Scholar Metrics - Useful tool to find where to publish

Google Scholar Metrics provide an easy way for authors to quickly gauge the visibility and influence of recent articles in scholarly publications. Scholar Metrics summarize recent citations to many publications, to help authors as they consider where to publish their new research.
